2018 Resolutions

Posted on: January 10, 2018

Happy Tuesday y’all!  If you read my 2017 recap yesterday, you know that I felt like I didn’t make enough time for myself last year.  So, I’m trying to make 2018 the year of ME.  Sounds selfish, I know. Especially at 27 years old, I KNOW.  But to be honest, I feel like I’ve always had some sort of significant other in my life.  I started dating my first boyfriend when I was 14 and have pretty much been in some sort of relationship ever since.  Even though the majority of these “relationships” were noncommittal/”grey area”/typical millennial types of relationships with a couple of serious relationships sprinkled in along the way, I’ve still always been attached in one way or another. So, my goal for 2018 is to simply focus on bettering myself, for me, because I think self-love is vital to living your best possible life.

The first way I’m planning on achieving this resolution is to take time for my mind. Between my job, starting Champagne Getaway, my relationship, and my crazy travel schedule in 2017, I feel like I never took a breather.  So in 2018, I’m trying to remind myself to take a break and spend some time relaxing.  I’m hoping to gain mental clarity by:

  • Taking 30 minutes out of my day to enjoy lunch
  • Try out yoga/meditation
  • Plan weekend getaway with friends (sans “blogging”)
  • Treat myself to a relaxing mani/pedi or massage every couple months
  • Setting aside set hours for “blogging”
  • Shutting my phone and computer down by 10 pm

My second goal is to prioritize relationships that are important to me.  Again, I feel like I worked so much last year that I didn’t spend enough time with people that mean the most to me, like my family and friends.  I still have wedding and birthday gifts to give that are long overdue from 2017—so embarrassing! Without my family and friends, I would be nothing.  Their support and encouragement helped me get through so much in 2017, and I want to make sure I am making time for everyone that is important to me.  Going to achieve these goals by:

  • Planning weekly dinners with my Chicago friends
  • See my family in Florida once a month or every other month
  • Set monthly skype dates with long-distance friends
  • Send snail mail birthday cards to friends and family
  • Plan annual weekend getaways with groups of friends
  • Send daily/weekly texts to check in on long distance relationships

My last goal is to treat my body better. I have always loved to work out and exercise, but in 2017 I really fell off the wagon, which is so unlike me.  I usually work out every single day, and I honestly think I went to the gym 10 times in 2017.  And is it just me or do everyone’s exercise and eating habits go hand in hand??  You’d think since I stopped working out, that I would watch what I ate more, but it’s pretty much been a crapshoot all of 2017.  So in 2017, I hope to:

  • Exercise for 30 minutes- 5 times a week when I’m at home, 3 times a week when I’m traveling
  • Drink 8 glasses of water a day (I’m terrible at this)
  • Take daily vitamins
  • Eat more plant-based foods
  • Run a half marathon
  • Complete Kayla Itsines BBG workouts weekly
  • Try to cut out dairy (except pizza, that’s never happening)
  • Nail down 2-3 really good, healthy recipes

Now that I wrote all of these out, I hope I can stick with them! What are your New Year’s resolutions and how do you plan to achieve them?!  I hope you are taking time for yourself in 2018 too!  XOXO
